WESTON—Two members of the Weston Fire Department, Mike Davies and Rick Easterwood, were honored for a combined half-century of service when the Wood County Firefighters Association recognized longtime firefighters from around the county during opening ceremonies at the Wood County Fair.
Thirty and Twenty Years
The Sentinel-Tribune reported that Mike Davies was recognized for 30 years with the Weston department and Rick Easterwood for 20 years. Easterwood also serves as the Village’s mayor.
The awards were presented on Sunday, Aug. 2, as the fair opened, by Mike Vajen, president of the Wood County Firefighters Association. Weston’s two honorees were among firefighters from departments and townships across the county who were recognized at the milestone ceremony.
An Annual Tradition
Vajen described the recognition as something the association does every year to thank firefighters for the help they give to others and to their communities. He also extended the thanks to firefighters’ families, saying that relatives are part of that service too and thanking them for supporting their loved ones’ work with their fire departments.
Davies has now served with the Weston Fire Department for three decades and Easterwood for two, a combined 50 years with the village’s department. Easterwood balances that service with his role as mayor, in which he leads the Village’s government and regularly brings legislation before Village Council.
The Weston Common congratulates both men on reaching their milestones and thanks them, and their families, for their years of service to the community.
